Amid a disturbing trend of social media threats across New Jersey, comes the arrest of a 15-year old in Toms River.

Police were alerted to an Instagram post late last night by a student in the school district alluding to a possible violent act.

A cooperative investigation was immediately initiated by the police department and the Toms River Schools Superintendent's Office.

Investigators found the threats were not credible.

The student was identified, located and now remains in custody.

Police and School officials say he will not be returning to classes until the conclusion of a comprehensive evaluation by the appropriate professionals.

Police and the Toms River Regional Schools District issued a joint statement this morning:

"To our Toms River Regional Schools Parents and Families: 

While undoubtedly an unfortunate occurrence, this incident highlights the swift and collaborative action we are willing to take to ensure the safety of our students, which is an ongoing effort of the highest priority. Thank you for your understanding in this matter."

The public is reminded that criminal charges are accusations only. Every criminal defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
