If you're like me and have spent literally any time on social media over the past few days, odds are you've seen the parking confusion going on in Ortley, and I'm not going to lie, I was livid when I first saw what was happening.

Parking On The Island Has Always Been In The News

Parking has kind of been in the spotlight on the island, especially along 35 this past summer after there was a proposed idea to make 35 two-way streets on both the North and South sides, and require back-in parking. That idea, I believe, is dead in the water, but more on it here.

No Stopping, No Standing Signs Put Up On 35 North And South In Ortley, NJ

A few days ago, I saw a photo on one of the Ortley or Seaside Facebook groups that along 35, road crews were busy at work putting up no stopping, no standing signs along 35 North and South in Ortley. This was obviously met with confusion and some outrage.

Street parking has always been free on 35 North and South. When my wife and I go to Ortley Beach, we park on 35 near the 3rd Street beach entrance. When we go to Bakin' Bagel to grab an iced coffee and Pork Roll Egg and Cheese, we park on 35. And when we're checking out a small business on the island, we usually park on 35.

So preventing parking along that street would cause a major headache for business owners, beachgoers, and shoppers!

Parking Is Still Legal Along 35 North And South In Ortley Beach, NJ

Fortunately, it looks like we can stop our angry mob and put away our pitchforks because, according to Patch, the 'no stopping, no standing' signs were installed in a misunderstanding.

Why Were The Signs Even Put Up In The First Place?

Apparently, the signs were requested from NJDOT, but only for a very specific spot in Ortley, not the entirety of 35 North and South. The signs are now in the process of being removed, and you shouldn't have any issues parking along 35 North and South in Ortley.
