Every month 105.7 The Hawk, along with our friends at Sonny’s Recycling in Waretown, highlights one of our local Jersey Shore neighbors who goes above and beyond to serve our communities.  We crown them to be Hawk Heroes.

This month we have chosen Catherine Bird from Manahawkin, NJ.  Catherine is a home care nurse for Hackensack Meridian Health and has been on the frontline of the pandemic the past year.  Despite the risk to herself and to her family, Catherine has been caring for those who need her expertise and her empathy.  Prior to Covid19 Catherine began grad school with the hopes of being a nurse practitioner very soon.  It goes without saying that we all feel grateful for nurses all around the world.  Especially those who serve in our backyard.

Catherine’s mom, Janet Avon who nominated her had this to say about her daughter…

“My daughter Catherine is a home care nurse. She has been working throughout the pandemic by visiting the homes of her patients, those with and without Covid to bring them the care they need. She has a genetic disorder that predisposes her to severe Covid but has worked tirelessly taking care of others despite the risks to her own health. She is a real hero!”
