Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to begin late this afternoon and continue through tomorrow morning. Aside from our dogs hating thunder, thunderstorms developing could mean tornado touch downs...
A tornado watch was issued today for 15 New Jersey counties. A "watch" means you are in an area that is ripe for it to happen. A warning is an area where a tornado is likely to het and if you are in a warning zone it is time to take action asap. Are you in one of the watch areas? Here they are:
- Atlantic
- Cape May
- Hunterdon
- Monmouth
- Salem
- Warren
- Burlington
- Cumberland
- Mercer
- Morris
- Somerset
- Camden
- Gloucester
- Middlesex
- Ocean
If a "watch" turns into a "warning" and you are inside you should:
1. stay away from windows
2. Avoid large, open rooms
3. Shelter in a reinforced area and put a mattress over your head
If a "watch turns into a "warning" and you are outside you should:
1. Seek shelter immediately
2. Do not depend on small structures like a shed or mobile home because they are not stable
3. Stay clear of as many tools or debris as possible
