Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey and Aberdeen Township Police Chief Alan Geyer jointly announced Saturday that the armed suspect, 45-year old Wilbert Hickman, was taken into custody and criminal charges are pending at this time.
It all began on Saturday morning, around 8:30 am, when police responded to a home on the 50 block of Wilson Avenue and found Hickman in the garage armed with a cache of weapons including a machete, a sword, a nail gun, and lighter fluid.
Once on scene, the police called in for backup requesting the deployment of the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team and the Monmouth County Rapid Deployment Force.
The investigating and responding agencies communicated with Hickman and maintained that dialogue until the situation was brought to a peaceful resolution and ending.
It came to an end thanks to some lengthy negotiations leading to Hickman being taken into custody around 2:00 pm.
Hickman was then immediately taken to a local medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
No first responders sustained injury during the incident.
"The Prosecutor’s Office would like to thank all local and county emergency, fire, and police personnel who responded to the scene and helped bring the situation to a peaceful conclusion."
