Philadelphia Eagles Won’t Visit White House To Celebrate Super Bowl
As a lifelong Giants fan, I literally never thought I would support a decision made by the Philadelphia Eagles...but here we are.
It's tradition for teams that win a championship make a visit to the White House to be honored. However, since everything (for better or worse) a form of politics now, the visit has become a point of controversy.
A number of Eagles have made anthem protests over the past few seasons, and when the White House learned that fewer than ten members of the team planned on making the trip to Washington, DC, the President withdrew the invitation.
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney released a statement with what I can only describe as a kill-shot.
Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.
OH DANG.
Look, we're not a talk radio station that delves into politics in any sort of real, in-depth way. I understand that people want to keep politics separate from sports or music or movies or whatever other form of entertainment...but the simple fact is, it can't be that way anymore. Everything is so intertwined, it's just inescapable.
Do I want to know who my favorite athlete voted for? Nope. Do they have the Freedom of Speech to say it anyway? HELL YES.
