According to APP, the list of new laws is pretty comprehensive, and they go into effect at different times throughout the year.

New Jersey's Minimum Wage Is Increasing In 2025

Right off the bat, minimum wage increases on January 1st of 2025.

Statewide, the minimum wage will increase to $15.49 an hour, and if you're a small business with six or fewer employees then the minimum wage will increase to $14.53 an hour.

If you work in a long-term care facility then your minimum wage will increase to $18.49 an hour.

And if you work in a bar or are part of a wait staff the minimum wage will increase to $5.62 an hour.

Healthcare Debts Cannot Go Into Collections Or Effect Your Credit Score

This, I think, is a cool law that stops your healthcare debts from being reported to creditors.

That has been in effect in Jersey since July, but according to APP, the law will expand this July.

There will be a limit on interest no debt of 3% per year.

There is also a limitation on wage garnishment to repay debts for patients whose income is less than 600% of the Federal Poverty Line.

New Jersey Will See Postpartum Healthcare Planning

Starting in May of 2025, new mothers will be able to seek tests for ongoing health issues, mental health support, breastfeeding assistance, and other postpartum care under this new law.

Alcohol Sales May Be Permitted Outdoors In NJ In 2025

This is again, what some restaurants and bars are already doing, but in May 2025 some alcoholic beverage retailers may be able to apply for a permit that would allow the sales of alcoholic beverages in certain outdoor areas.

Teachers Will Also See New Laws In NJ In 2025

The big one is that there will no longer be a test required for new teachers showing basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills.
