This New Jersey Fire Company is Waiting for Your Bravery
BThe past week, my family has been vacationing in Lavallette. It’s been kind of weird ‘skipping’ vacation this year and just swinging in for dinner and some adult beverages each evening after work but when you live where most people vacation I guess you make sacrifices right?
Over the past week, my fiancee Rachel and I would make a point to go for a walk down the Lavallette boardwalk every night. We love looking at all of the huge, gorgeous, and jaw-droppingly stunning homes that are beach-front imagining what life must be like to live in one of them. It was during our walk last Sunday that something other than the houses caught my eye.
On Sunday we ended up making a stop near the lifeguard stand that falls about halfway through the boardwalk, and I noticed a flyer up looking for volunteers for what is (in my opinion) one of the best causes you can get behind; being a volunteer firefighter. Interested? I have the details below!
How to become a Lavallette Volunteer Firefighter
The Lavallette Fire Department is looking for volunteers, both firefighters, and junior firefighters. According to the flyer to be a junior firefighter you have to maintain a C plus average in school and be between 14 and 17, and if you’re 18 or older with a valid NJ driver's license then you can volunteer as an adult firefighter.
Volunteering to be a firefighter comes with a ton of great benefits; you’ll be serving your community when it needs you most, and you’ll meet and work with some amazing people. My dad was a volunteer firefighter for years and the guys he fought fires with were one of a kind.
In addition, you’ll get training, and a pension plan, and there’s is a great physical fitness program to boot! If you’re interested, you can stop by the Lavallette Borough Hall or swing by the Lavallette firehouse on the 1st or 3rd Tuesday of each month between 7 PM and 8 PM.
