Girls Basketball Week 4 Player of the Week Nominees

Ariana Broughton, Jackson Liberty

Jackson Liberty is still searching for its first win but Broughton turned in a week to remember while helping her team get close. The Jackson Liberty scored 28 points to go with 16 rebounds, five steals and five blocks in a loss vs. Pinelands, put up 30 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to Point Boro, then capped the week with 28 points and 10 boards in losing to Wall.

Summer Castiglione, Brick Memorial

Castiglione had a game to remember to close out Brick Memorial’s week. The Mustangs exacted some revenge against Central after losing to the Golden Eagles in the WOBM Christmas Classic consolation round by beating the Golden Eagles at the buzzer and it was Castiglione doing the deed. The senior scored 22 points and hit the game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds to deliver the 46-43 win.

Julia Corsentino, Rumson-Fair Haven

After opening the week with an easy 11-point outing in Rumson rout of Matawan, Corsentino came up with three quality performances against good competition. The junior delivered 16 points and five rebounds in a loss to Red Bank Catholic, put up 22 points and five boards in a lost to Trinity Hall, and closed out the week with 25 points, nine rebounds and three assists to nab MVP honors in a showcase win over Chatham.

Rylee Drahos, Shore

Shore’s junior standout put together a huge week, with her team going 2-1 in the process. Drahos scored 23 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and handed out six assists in a win over Hightstown to get her week starter, then followed that up with 32 points, five rebounds and four assists in a win over Matawan. She capped her week with another double-double – 29 points and 10 rebounds – in a loss to Jackson Memorial.

Bridget Dudas, Pinelands

Dudas averaged 25.7 points last week and had a career-best performance in leading Pinelands to its first win of the season. The senior scored 41 of Pinelands’ 52 points in an overtime win over Jackson Liberty, giving her a career-best performance to go with 18-point outings in losses to Donovan Catholic and Brick in the Wildcats’ other two games.

Abbey Ferguson, Holmdel

The competition ramped up for Holmdel last week and Ferguson responded to the challenge with three strong, all-around performances. She put up 13 points, five rebounds and 11 assists to help Holmdel push Red Bank Catholic to the brink in what was ultimately a Caseys win. The senior then delivered 19 points, six rebounds and five steals in a win over Raritan and closed out the week with 23 points in a loss to Ewing.

Lizzie Gillen, Toms River East

Big performances in rivalry games are always memorable for players and Gillen had herself a night to remember in a Raiders win over Toms River South. The senior went off for 33 points, nine rebounds and three steals to lead Toms River East to a win over its rival, then put up 13 points in a win over Central – the Raiders’ fourth straight victory after opening the season 0-4.

Justine Pissott, Red Bank Catholic

Pissott continues to shine as one of the state’s top players, leading Red Bank Catholic to three more wins with three more 20-plus-point performances. The 6-foot-4 senior helped the Caseys dodge an upset at Holmdel with 21 points and 10 rebounds, scored 28 points – including the 1,000th of her career – in a win at Rumson-Fair Haven, and finished off the week with 26 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Bishop Loughlin of N.Y.

Devyn Quigley, Manchester

Manchester bounced back from a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 week and Quigley led the effort. The sophomore turned in 26 points, seven assists and three steals against Brick, went for 22 points, 12 rebounds and three steals and did it all (28 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and four steals) in Saturday’s win over Wildwood Catholic.
