After a lot of back-and-forth, it's being reported that a group led by Derek Jeter will purchase the Miami Marlins.

A group led by Derek Jeter and Bruce Sherman (a New York financier) have agreed to pay $1.2 billion for the team. Sherman would be the "control person", while Jeter would be the CEO.

After some reports that Jeter wanted more control with less financial input, reports are that Jeter is contributing $25 million towards the purchase.

MLB spoke to current manager of the Marlins and former Yankee great Don Mattingly:

I can always talk about Derek. Derek is easy to talk about. He's someone I've known since he first stepped onto a Major League Spring Training. Derek has been successful in everything he's tried to do. What Derek has been able to do in his career, who he is as a person, there's nothing in it that leads you to believe he's not going to be successful, as far as really anything he wants to do."
