Communist People Suffer Enormous Eyesight Malady

...named North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong-Un 2012′s “Sexiest Man Alive.”

I love these stories because I love humor in almost any form, but when the story about the humorous story becomes even funnier, that's when it gets really good, don't you think?

The People’s Daily, which is the official mouthpiece of China’s communist government, bought the story lock, stock and barrel, so let me declare that communism is not just evil, apparently it's not too bright.

From The Onion story:

"With his devastatingly handsome, round face, his boyish charm, and his strong, sturdy frame, this Pyongyang-bred heartthrob is every woman’s dream come true. Blessed with an air of power that masks an unmistakable cute, cuddly side, Kim made this newspaper’s editorial board swoon with his impeccable fashion sense, chic short hairstyle, and, of course, that famous smile.”

An article on post-gazette.com elaborates:

"The Onion" is on something of a roll, lately. Two months ago, an Iranian news agency picked up one of its stories reporting that rural white Americans would prefer to vote for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad than vote for Mr. Obama. Once again, the sarcasm was lost in translation.

There's something about the despotic mind-set that doesn't process irony very well. That's not surprising. The ability to laugh, especially at oneself, requires a realistic view of one's own foibles.

Despots and their propaganda czars fail to "get" subversive humor because after all of the truth-tellers are thrown in jail, they have no way of appreciating how ridiculous their regimes really are. Not to worry, though, "The Onion" is glad to pick up the slack.

Yep, despots have no sense of humor, especially at their own expense.

By the way, not only did the People's Daily quote the Onion article seriously, but they even added (I'm not making this up) their own photo collection of "sexy" poses by the guy.

I love it when that happens.
