When the BlueClaws announced their schedule for the 2020 season, no one could have expected we would be celebrating Opening Night online.

The Claws should have been kicking off their first homestand of the season with a four-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers starting Thursday night. The gates would have opened, the grass would have been the perfect shade of green. The air would have smelled like hot dogs and funnel cake, kids would have been running around the concourse. The National Anthem would have played, the players would have taken the field, the crack of the bat would have echoed around First Energy Park. The crowd would have cheered and booed and groaned and roared. The night would've ended with a massive fireworks show, and we all would have come back to do it the next night.

Sorry if I got overly romantic about that, I just love baseball.

Since MLB and MiLB are still figuring out what to do with the 2020 season, the BlueClaws will celebrate a Virtual Opening Night via Twitter! They're embracing their fans as best as they can by inviting everyone to participate in different ways.

The BlueClaws are looking for kids to participate in the following ways:

  • National Anthem - email us a video of your family signing the anthem!
  • First Pitches - email us a video of your kids throwing out a ceremonial first pitch in the yard - be sure to wear BlueClaws gear if you have it!
  • Play Ball - email us a video of your kids saying 'Play Ball' to start the virtual game!

All emails should sent to social@blueclaws.com.

Celebrate Opening Night virtually, and keep flattening the curve so we can finally get back to First Energy Park for real!
