Dirty water, it's a problem at the Jersey Shore in the summer months.

And I'm not talking about trash, I'm talking about real dirty water, water that's been contaminated by fecal bacteria.

Disgusting.

Sadly it's something we see pretty regularly at the Shore, and it does cause warnings to be issued, and beaches to close.

For example, right around the 4th of July swimming was banned temporarily at Beachwood due to a high level of fecal bacteria.

Just a few days ago 4 more NJ beaches went under an advisory due to high levels of fecal bacteria being found in the water.

Some were in Seaside, others were a little further North in the Highlands.

Beachwood Beach West Has Banned Simming For The Rest Of The Summer

This hits hard, but the fecal bacteria has struck again and this time it took out Beachwood Beach West.

According to NJ.com and Beachwood officials;

For the safety, health and welfare of the residents and others, the mayor and council have decided to close swimming at the beach for the remainder of the 2024 season due to the Ocean County Health Department reporting of excessive bacteria levels found in the water

This is the second summer in a row that swimming has been banned at Beachwood Beach West, last year it was due to a lifeguard shortage.

It really is a shame too, because Beachwood Beach is a great place to spend the summer; you get all the fun of the Jersey Shore without the insane crowds.
