One of the best parts of hanging out at the beach all day is playing beach games; like volleyball, sticky ball, or just throwing a ball around with your friends.

But will ball playing on the beach soon be a thing of the past?

In one Jersey Shore Town, it very well could be.

Ball Playing On The Beach May Be Banned In Seaside Heights, NJ

The first time this came to my attention was back during Memorial Day Weekend.

My wife and I were taking a walk down the Seaside Heights boardwalk when we heard over the announcement speakers no ball playing allowed on the beach today.

At first, we thought this was strange because ball playing on the beach has always been okay, but then we saw that the beach was absolutely mobbed, and it made more sense that ball playing was restricted while the beach was that crowded.

In a recent town hall meeting, the idea of banning ball playing on the beach was met with mixed reviews by residents according to Shore Beat.

Some residents saw the potential issues it causes when the beaches are crowded; sand getting kicked at people who are just sitting there enjoying the view, the possibility of a stray ball striking someone, and when it's crowded it can be an issue.

It's also a problem when people are tossing the ball around near the back of the beaches away from people, but lose their ball in the dunes.

Teens and kids have been witnessed climbing onto dunes in order to retrieve their lost ball which is a problem.

Other residents though were more in favor of a common sense rule when it comes to ball playing on the beach.

If the beach is crowded, sure, limit ball playing to certain areas or just ban it for the day.

If the beach is pretty empty, then let them play ball.

For now, it seems like ball playing on the Seaside Heights beach will be allowed, but the township can make the call to ban ball playing if the beach is too crowded that day.
