Asbury Park joins the list of New Jersey towns that have banned cigarettes from the beach.

In what was a surprisingly narrow vote, the Asbury Park City Council passed the ruling last night, and will go into effect immediately.

Asbury Park communication director Sonia Spina said

The number one thing people want when they come to the beach is clean water and clean sand. The smoking ban addresses that and also public health concerns.

The ban only applies to tobacco products, so electronic cigarettes and vapes will still be allowed. Smoking tobacco products will still be allowed on the Asbury Park boardwalk.

I'm surprised there are ANY towns that still allow smoking on the beach, and frankly it's about time to ban it on the boardwalks as well.
