I bet you think your car is special when your odometer hits 100,000 miles, or maybe even 200,000, but that is NOTHING compared to Florida resident Rachel Veitech.

Rachel is retiring her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente after more than 576,000 miles on the pavement.

After being declared “legally blind”, Rachel knows she can’t drive anymore.

Vietch is fond of noting that the car has outlasted three marriages. Mechanically, it’s worn through three sets of shocks, 18 batteries and eight mufflers. Veitch bought the car in February 1964 for just $3,289.

She credits the longevity to a “near-obsessive” approach to the car’s maintenance. “I’ve never been a destructive person and I’ve just taken care of everything, except my husbands,” she told FoxNews.

For me, this is equally assuring and scary. It’s nice to know that there is someone perched high atop a stadium, keeping an eye out to protect the various political figures and important people from any madman who might try something dangerous. On the flipside, the fact that some madman has a chance to break into this perch and start picking off random people freaks me out. I’m sure there are a million security measures to get to that area, but it’s still just a touch unsettling to me.
