A Whiting man who needed a lot of room to back up out of his driveway ends up in his neighbors house across the street.

James Toth, 55, was backing out when he hit the gas and zoomed across the street, over the lawn and into his neighbors house on Brentwood Drive around 10:24 am on Sunday morning.

Toth told police when he backed up, his 2019 Chrysler Pacifica began accelerating uncontrollably in reverse.

The vehicle continued to pick up speed until it impacted the front right portion of the home across the street, which was determined to be a bedroom.

At the time of the crash, the bedroom was occupied by 72-year-old William Doty and his 70-year-old wife, Linda.

Both residents were on the opposite side of the room from where the vehicle entered and thankfully only suffered minor injuries.

William and Linda were treated by first aid at the scene and transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick for further treatment.

Their injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

Toth was uninjured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but at this point, driver error appears to be a contributing factor.

This crash is currently under investigation by Ptl. Anderson of the Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
