A Toms River man has passed away following a tragic series of events in a single car crash on Route 571 at the intersection of Whitesville and Leawood Avenue on Tuesday evening.

Police said that 43-year old Roy Piazza was heading west on Route 571 when he suddenly lost control of this 2005 Chrysler Crossfire and slide across the right lane and struck a utility pole which then broke into three pieces.

The vehicle then slid up the metal guide wire and overturned onto its convertible roof.

Piazza was found trapped under the vehicle and was extricated by the Toms River Fire Department.

He was being given CPR as he was being transported to Community Medical Center by Toms River EMS where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater.
