Toms River man charged with leaving scene of accident in Metuchen

A Toms River man is facing a number of offenses after leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Middlesex County that resulted in a utility worker landing in the hospital with serious injuries.

Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Metuchen Police Chief David Irizarry announced that 18-year old Paddy Flynn of Toms River has been arrested and charged in the hit and run which took place in the Borough on Monday morning.

Flynn is being charged with aggravated assault in the second degree, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury in the third degree and various motor vehicle summonses.

Investigators say that around 9:01 am Monday Flynn was driving a white Ford F 250 pickup truck and struck a utility worker in the crosswalk at the intersection of Middlesex Avenue and Grove Avenue and then fled the scene.

The 51-year old utility worker from Whippany, New Jersey who was struck in the hit and run remains in critical condition this afternoon.

Police began their investigation Monday looking for the driver of a white pick up truck seen near the incident.

That driver contacted authorities and was turned out to be a witness.

They were able to help police identify the hit-and-run driver, Paddy Flynn.

Flynn is scheduled for his initial court appearance via video Tuesday in New Brunswick Superior Court.

The investigation is active and continuing.
