On June 13th, 1970, Grand Funk & The MC5 were scheduled to play at The Ocean Ice Palace in Brick. The MC5 had to cancel, so Steel Mill (fronted by some guy named Bruce) warmed the crowd up instead.

This past weekend I had a big family gathering, and my uncle who now lives in Oklahoma was reminiscing about a concert he went to while he still lived here. He didn't remember the exact year, but he remembered going to see Grand Funk and The MC5 at Brick's Ocean Ice Palace. MC5 was stuck in Connecticut, and a local band named Steel Mill was called upon to fill in. My uncle lived in northern Jersey, and had no idea who this band was, but the front rows of the crowd went nuts.

I did a bit of researching to see if I could find the info, and came across this video. The sound is pretty bad, but it's still a very cool glimpse into the past. According to the video, this is the ONLY recording of Steel Mill doing their song "Black Sun Risin' "
