Manchester Police are still investigating what caused three vehicles and a boat to collide on Saturday afternoon but they have a pretty good idea of what happened to this point.

When officers responded to the intersection of Route 571 and Commonwealth Boulevard around 12:45 pm they found a grey full-sized 2011 Chevy Silverado Pickup with heavy front-end damage, a black 2015 Chevy Silverado Pickup pinned against a traffic signal support post with a pleasure boat that was attached to the back but had broken off and a black 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped at the traffic signal.

Police ran a preliminary investigation of the crash scene and said that the Grey Pickup was heading west on Route 571 when Douglas Smith of Toms River tried making a left turn onto Commonwealth Boulevard but collided with the Black Pickup driven by Edward Liatys Jr. of Yardville who was heading eastbound at the time and was towing a boat.

When they collided the boat dislodged and struck the Jeep driven by David McCluskey of Manchester who was stopped at the traffic signal.

Five people in Liatys’s truck were transported to Brick Hospital for minor injuries.

Manchester Police were assisted at the scene by the Manchester Emergency Medical Services, and the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department.

The cause of the crash is ongoing and is being investigated by Ptl. George Smith of the department’s Patrol Bureau.
