Up until this week I had NOT used or even purchased an over the counter home Covid -19 test. I figured since I had this experience I would share some of my thoughts with you in case you are a little intimidated by the thought of using a home kit.

First things is where do you get them? I wasn’t even sure until I asked Sue Moll, she recently had Covid-19 and used one of these types of tests, so I asked her and you can get these over the counter home kits at your local pharmacy. There may be other stores that carry, but I did get mine at my local pharmacy. It was about $20 and change and the kit includes 2 tests. By the way I was able to use my medical flex spending account to cover the cost, so if you have this type of medical spending account yes you can use it.

The test I purchased was the Access Bio “CareStart” Covid-19 Antigen Home Test. It comes with everything you need. The test comes with written directions but it also comes with the app. You simply scan the QR code and it takes you right to the On/Go app. Simply follow the easy directions. You have the test chemical, you swab your nose then place that swab in the test chemical and then put a couple of drops into the test cassette and within minutes you get the results. It sounds maybe confusing, but the app walks you through each step and includes timers so you won’t even need to watch the clock…it does it all.

This kit was easy to use and I picked this test up because I was feeling congested with sneezing, runny nose and congestion. I didn’t want to risk those around me if in fact I had Covid-19. For the record I am vaccinated, my choice, and I’m glad to report I was “negative” and I do not have Covid-19…maybe an old fashioned head cold.

I would say it was somewhere from 5-10 minutes to do the test and have your results and it is clear and easy to read.

I hope this helps a bit and maybe will make you less worried about getting the over the counter Covid-19 home test kit and I pray 🙏🏻 you and your loved ones stay healthy.
