The Toms River Police Department is always working to get drugs off the streets. I've seen a few other police departments give out the total amount of drugs and other things they have confiscated in a year, and it's always interesting to see just what the cops are able to get.

So far in 2020, the Special Enforcement Team, or SET, has hit the following numbers:

  • 119 arrests
  • 3 guns recovered
  • a stolen vehicle recovered
  • over $117,000 in US currency
  • 5272 Wax Folds of heroin
  • 751 Grams of cocaine
  • 20 Grams of meth
  • 3926 Grams of marijuana
  • 35 Cartridges of THC
  • 17 Grams of synthetic marijuana
  • 120 Grams of psilocybin mushrooms
  • 58 Film/Pills of suboxone
  • 67 Pills of oxycodone
  • 96 Pills of alprazolam
  • 20 Pills of ecstasy

The Hawk studio is located right in downtown Toms River, and it was a running gag that some of the people who were here for morning shows would have to dodge some sketchy people. Since the Red Carpet Inn was demolished, the numbers dropped significantly, but based on those numbers, it looks like the Toms River Police Department is still pretty busy.

Marijuana is going to be very interesting very soon, because the legalization is back on the ballot. I know that a big part of Governor Murphy's campaign was supporting legal marijuana, but for a number of reasons, it keeps getting shot down. Putting it in the hands of the voters could lead to a different result, and even though I'm sure certain towns would still enforce some sort of ban on having dispensaries within the city limits, if it's legal across the state, those people can't be punished...right? I'll admit I'm somewhat out of my depth here. Regardless, make sure you vote!
