Monday Night, September 28th is the 30th annual Vest-a-Cop fundraiser where the Toms River Police PBA 137 puts on the aprons to become servers at Pizza Hut. It’s happening at the Pizza Hut on Rt. 37 in Toms River from 4-9 p.m.

It was unclear if this event was even going to happen this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but I'm happy to report that it is happening once again.

This year, dining will be held outdoors only and tables will be placed under tents.

Toms River’s police officers will be waiters and waitresses for the night to raise money for the “Bullet Proof Vest Fund”.

The Toms River Police Department is asking for our help, and I know things are tense between police and the public right now, but the reality is that no matter how you might feel about them, positive or negative, they will continue to protect you AND be there for you no matter what. That is just the reality. So we’re asking you to donate a few bucks to make their job just a little bit easier.

The fund will continue to vest the police officers and keep them safe while upholding their responsibilities to protect life and property.

There will also be plenty of activities for the kids: music, a classic car show, and one of my favorites...Dunk-a-cop! Unfortunately, due to social distancing mandates, there will be no face painting or bounce house this year.

I'm just happy that the event is on as scheduled and once again we can help the men and women of the Toms River Police Department get the protection they need to protect the public
