SUEZ begins water infrastructure project in Toms River

There is a 70-year old water main heading to retirement as SUEZ begins a water infrastructure project on Tuesday morning in downtown Toms River.

The upgrades will begin on Lafayette Avenue and continue along Clinton Avenue, Fairacres Drive, Franklin Avenue, Grand Avenue, Hadley Avenue, Lexington Avenue and Madison Avenue.

In place of the retiring water main, SUEZ is putting in several ductile iron pipes which they feel is an upgrade over the mains along several roads in Toms River.

SUEZ is investing more than $3 million to replenish about 2-½ miles of water main with 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch ductile iron pipe.

“We continue to make ongoing, significant, proactive investments in aging infrastructure to ensure service reliability, water quality and fire protection for our customers who depend on us every day,” Jim Mastrokalos, Director of Operations, said in a statement. “Customers affected by this project can rest assured the company’s project inspectors will communicate, in advance, about specific dates and times for any temporary water interruptions, lane shifts or traffic detours,” he added.

Crews are scheduled to work from 7:00 am to 5:00 daily during the work-week except for Thanksgiving and the following day.

The company expects to complete the project including milling and paving, by March, 2021 and final roadway restoration is projected to take place by June 2021.
