There's excellent safety news for patients at the Jersey Shore as seven of the eight hospitals in Monmouth and Ocean County have received an 'A' grade for patient safety.

The Leapfrog Group, who is a national nonprofit organization, published the report.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog’s other main initiative, assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, Ocean Medical Center in Brick, Community Medical Center of Toms River, Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin and Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel all received an 'A' grade for patient safety while CentrState Medical Center in Freehold received a 'B' grade.

You can review the grades and scores in full in the Leapfrog report.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year.

The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“To be recognized nationally as an ‘A’ hospital is an accomplishment the whole community should take pride in,” Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group said. “Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ grade are making it a priority to protect patients from preventable medical harm and error. We congratulate hospital leaders, board members, staff, volunteers and clinicians who work so hard to earn this A.”

“I’m extremely proud of all our team members on achieving ‘A’ grades in such an important aspect of health care,” Kenneth N. Sable, M.D., MBA, FACEP, Hackensack Meridian Health regional president, southern market, said. “Patient safety is not something we take lightly, in fact, our patients are at the core of everything we do. We will continue to focus on providing exceptional and safe health care and remain dedicated to all of our patients’ health care needs.”
