After you stuff yourself full of turkey and sweet potatoes and buttered rolls and apple pie on Thanksgiving, lace up your running shoes and burn off some of those calories at the Toms River Education Foundation 5K!

The Toms River Education Foundation was created just earlier this month by Toms River Councilman Terrance Turnbach to keep extra curricular activities going in the school district.

Turnbach told Vin Ebenau of Townsquare Media News:

100-percent of the money raised will go back to the school district to fund extra curricular activities and there's no particular focus on any one activity. It's not going to be all for sports or all for the arts, it's going to be where the need is so we want to make sure that if children want to be involved in a play, that there's funding for the play, if they want to be involved in intramural sports, that there's funding for intramural sports, if there's a need for uniforms, that uniforms can be paid for so it'll be across the board.

Here's all the details if you're interested in taking part in the 5k:

  • SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2020 (rain or shine)
  • RACE START TIMES:
    • Kiddie Dash – 2:45pm
    • 1 Mile Fun Run – 3pm
    • 5K Run/Walk – 3:30pm
  • ENTRY FEES:
    • 5K Run/Walk – $25
    • 1 Mile Fun Run – $15

The first 200 applicants will get a free tshirt! There will also be awards for the top three finishers in the 5K Run/Walk. The course is mostly flat, but does include a few of the hills that run through downtown Toms River.
