Since the town stepped in and bought the property, the TRPD said there was an immediate drop in calls about drug use, assaults, and burglaries in the area.

The demolition of the hotel is not only intended to reduce crime - the town also has hopes to bring more life to the waterfront area in downtown Toms River. There is also an added benefit in that the town will be able to start fresh and attempt to address the flooding that hits that stretch of Water Street any time there is heavy rain.

The Council will meet to approve a demolition contract to Site Enterprises Inc. of Egg Harbor Township, with the total amount not to exceed $345,000. Let's just hope that this project doesn't affect traffic for as long as the 37/166 project.
