Saturday afternoon, cameras caught an incident on the beach in Wildwood.

[Warning: the video is graphic]

In case that tweet gets taken down, you can also watch the video here:

Emily Weinman, a 20 year old from Philadelphia was charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer (2 Counts), Aggravated Assault by Spitting Bodily Fluids at/on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction and Minor in Possession of Alcohol.

The Wildwood Police Department issued a statement on Facebook, saying an Internal Affairs investigation was launched immediately after the video began spreading across social media.

Weinman admitted via Facebook that she, despite being underage, brought alcohol to the beach. When officers confronted her, she asked if they didn't have better things to do than bust underage drinkers - at that point, she says the officer said "‘I was gonna let you go but now I’ll write you up". She says when the officers approached her, she tripped and fell backwards, which initiated the physical confrontation.

As of yesterday, Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr said he hadn't seen the officer's bodycam footage, but stood behind his police department, saying they were "doing their job". We'll keep you update as new information comes in.

No one looks good in this situation, and (I know it's a cop-out (no pun intended)) but it's hard to make a judgement without having been there. I have never and will never understand the mentality of people who start shit with cops. Just saying something like "don't you have anything better to do" is a guarantee that they will make it harder on you. Maybe the officer was just going to confiscate the booze and let Weinman off with a warning, but when she mouthed off, he decided not to be nice. Maybe she really did "trip", and the officer interpreted that as her trying to strike him, at which point he responded.

BUT...I do believe those officers used what has to be considered "excessive force". You can hear bystanders yelling at her to stop resisting, but what does that even mean? The girl is trying to stop getting punched, so the natural instinct is to cover your head or try to curl up and just get away. No one is going to "stop resisting" by just lying perfectly still while fists are pounding your head.
