A Pennsylvania woman remains hospitalized after being hit by a car while crossing Hooper Avenue near James Street in Toms River.

The accident occurred on Friday night around 6:00 pm when Toms River Police said they were dispatched to the area.

Officers on scene learned that 34-year old Ebony Shepherd of Johnstown, PA climbed over the Jersey Barrier from east to west when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

Due to the extent of her injuries, Toms River Police said that Shepherd was brought to Community Medical Center and then airlifted to RWJ Hospital in New Brunswick.

The driver was unharmed in the crash and police said that the driver didn't show any signs of being impaired.

The accident remains under investigation by Toms River Police Traffic Safety Officer Mark Nater and Patrolman Will Resetar.
