You would like to think that the food we are getting from the shelves of our grocery stores is safe and okay for us to consume, right?
Sure, every now and then recalls happen, but for the most part, those issues happen at the production level, not the distribution or food store level.

Like when shrimp started getting recalled across the country this week because some bags contained a radioactive element.
That's not Walmart's fault; that's the fault of the manufacturer.
Shocking Discovery At NJ Stop And Shop Locations
However, what happened at a few New Jersey Stop and Shops is blowing my mind.

Now, I want to make perfectly clear, I'll continue to shop at Stop and Shop, and I've been going to the one off 37 for years.
I think they have pretty fair prices on a lot of produce, snacks, and meats and cheeses that my house eats on a regular basis.
Ocean County Stop And Shops Fined For Meat Violations
That being said, I was shocked to learn that 5 Stop and Shops in Ocean County were just fined for selling mislabeled and mishandled meats!
According to NJ.com, Stop and Shop was extending expiration dates past what the wholesaler would reccomend, leading to complaints of rotten, tainted, and spoiled meat.
Part of the issue is that Stop and Shop doesn't have an in-house butcher section and instead relies a lot on pre-packaged meats to sell to consumers.
Stop And Shop Hit With A $75,000 Fine In Ocean County, NJ
The brand was fined $75,000, and new safety measures are being put in place to prevent something like this from happening again in the future.
