Spending time in Jersey means different things to different people.

Some people think of Jersey and picture nothing but sandy shores and days spent fishing.

Other folks may think of Jersey and think of an endless stretch of highways, jug handles and strip malls.

When I think of Jersey, I think of all the small towns that make up our awesome state. There's a lot more to Jersey than meets the eye.

And if you plan on visiting Jersey in this summer and are looking to do something other than hit go down the shore, then maybe you'll want to check out one of these amazing little Jersey towns.

Cape May

According to World Atlas, Cape May is one of the best towns in Jersey.

It's the best of both worlds; it's got a small-town feel but is also a booming little beach town filled with classic Victorian-era homes that are gorgeous.

Lambertville

You can spend the day kayaking, hiking, shopping, or eating at a number of amazing little cafes and restaurants in Lambertville.

This small town has a lot to offer visitors this summer and is located right off the Delaware river.

Allentown

World Atlas also ranks Allentown as one of Jersey's best small towns to visit this summer.

Allentown is small but mighty.

You can tour the New Jersey Fire Museum, enjoy a walk downtown, or visit the Horse Park of New Jersey.

Spring Lake

Called by many the "Jewel of the Jersey Shore" you will fall in love with this little shore town.

What's unique is that Spring Lake has a non-commercial boardwalk. That means there are no shops or businesses, just great views of the Atlantic

Cranbury

This Historic New Jersey town is a must-visit for history buffs.

According to World Atlas, Cranbury has strong ties to the Revolutionary War and is also on the National Register of Historic Places

Maywood

Maywood may be surrounded by the hustle and bustle of busy highways, but the town is perfectly nestled away so that you feel like you've stepped back in time when you visit.

The town hosts events throughout the year including a great Fourth Of July Parade as well as tons of events around Christmas Time.

Ocean Grove

Another town that's not only a picturesque shore town but is also on the National Register of Historic Places.

Founded in 1869, this town is perfect for family getaways and weekend trips alike.

The town hosts events all year long including flea markets, farmers markets, and art shows, and could become your new favorite small New Jersey town!
