If you have small dogs, or cats, or any other pets that spends time outdoors, you really need to be careful. Don't leave them unattended, don't let them run into the backyard to pee on their own, don't let them off their leash.

My two dogs are small, both under 20lbs. While they may be too heavy for a hawk to actually lift off the ground, they are still definitely at risk for injury by the bird's talons. Just a few months ago we told you about a bulldog that was attacked by a red-tailed hawk that was lucky to escape without major injury.

Take care of your pets, and spread the word to make sure all pet-owners keep an eye on the sky to watch out for hawks.
