I have been getting a bunch of alerts on my phone this week informing me that controlled burns in wooded areas would be taking place throughout Ocean County.

Fire officials perform controlled burns during the cooler months to reduce fuel buildup and decrease the likelihood of serious large forest fires in the hotter, drier months of the year.

I just happened to be driving on Rt. 539 earlier today in Manchester not even thinking about the "alerts" I have received when I saw signs warning the public of controlled burns taking place today, and NOT to call 911.
