I Found 20+ Flies On One Window In My NJ House. Turns Out It’s Common.
What's the most disgusting thing you've ever dealt with while living in Jersey? I'm just looking for someone to commiserate with, because I think I'm currently in the middle of the grossest thing I've ever dealt with while living in Jersey, and I'm looking for advice.
I'm talking about cluster flies.

What Are Cluster Flies, And Why Are They In My House?
If you're not familiar, these are large, slow-moving flies that typically gather in hordes near windows in your home. They're harmless and just looking for shelter, but they have become an absolute nightmare situation in my house.
And I've never dealt with them before, until moving to New Jersey.

It starts off small with just one fly here and another there. Then, I'd come home from work, and there'd be three or four flies on my one window. Then, the cluster comes. I came home from work the other day, and there must have been 20 or more flies hanging out on my one window. I was disgusted!
My wife and I keep a tidy house; we do our dishes, take out the trash, and keep our cats' litter area very clean. So how are we getting so many flies?
It's apparently not uncommon in Jersey.
Where Do Cluster Flies Come From?
From what I've read online so far, Cluster Flies are born in the winter as larvae and work their way into your walls, crawlspaces, or, in some cases, your attic. Then, when they hatch, they take over your home in hordes.
It's gross.
Any Advice For Dealing With Cluster Flies In NJ?
We've been trying to mitigate it as best we can. You can just vacuum them up, place some indoor traps, and stay on top of swatting, but it's like a full-time job!

Has anyone else in Jersey ever experienced this Cluster Fly issue? And if you did, please, what did you do? I will say, the positive to all of this is that I'm really good at killing flies right now, so there's that!
