The beach news continues to get better for Ocean County residents.

This week several Ocean County towns announced that beaches are opening including Point Pleasant Beach (May 15 & July 4) Lavallette, Seaside Park, Toms River (Ortley Beach) and even Brick who has taken the announcement a step further as Mayor John Ducey announced Friday that swimming will be allowed at Brick Beach 1 and Windward Beach Park on Memorial Day weekend.

Mayor Ducey said that ALL beaches would be open daily beginning on June 15 with new safety measures in play due to the ongoing pandemic.

“While it is important that we continue to be vigilant in the fight against coronavirus, it is also important to bring back some normal aspects of life as safely as we can,” Mayor Ducey said. “Going to the beach is something that can be done in such a manner which is why we decided to move forward with opening them on Memorial Day weekend.”

He said that during the crisis, beachgoers will be required to adhere to social distancing guidelines and lifeguard staff will be patrolling the beaches on foot throughout the day to make sure everyone is adhering to the regulations in place.

If crowds gather and any violation of social distancing and other regulations occur, the beach access will be shut down.

Beach staff will regularly disinfect restrooms, lockers and equipment throughout daily operations.

Earlier this week Mayor Ducey announced that Brick Beach I, Brick Beach II and Brick Beach III are open but the parking lot for BB III is closed due to a previously scheduled project.

The Brick Reservoir, which is managed by the Brick Township Municipal Utilities Authority, has been closed since March 16.

In the meantime, Mayor Ducey said that the number of daily beach badges sold will be limited to prevent crowding.
