I Waited Six Weeks for a Beach Day at Seaside Heights. Then the Teenagers Showed Up
How often do you go to the beach, only to find yourself more and more annoyed with the people around you, who clearly don't understand how to act on the beach?
And I'm not talking about people playing music next to you that's super loud, honestly, that doesn't really bother me that much. What really gets me going is so much more disrespectful than that.

My First Day Off in Six Weeks and I Was Headed to Seaside Heights
This past Sunday was my first full day off in probably 6 weeks or so, and the plan was to totally relax and just spend the day chilling at the beach.
I love Seaside Heights, so on Sunday morning I got up nice and early, drove over to the island, got some primo parking in Seaside Park (because it's free!) and walked over to the beach entrance near Dupont Avenue.
The Golden Rule of New Jersey Beach Etiquette Nobody Talks About
Since it was nice early, I had my pick of spots on the beach; there was a family of three set up near the ocean, about twenty-five feet to their left was a woman reading a book, and so I decided to set up shop about twenty-five feet from the woman reading.
Since we all know the golden rule, if there's plenty of space on the beach, be sure to spread out and give the people around you a respectful amount of room, right?
Then the Teenagers Showed Up, and the Trouble Started
Apparently, not everyone gets that rule, because after 45 minutes of reading my book, a group of teenagers came onto the beach and started throwing their football around.

Now, I can't stress enough, teenagers throwing a football is not an issue with me, if I'm on the beach with friends, throwing a ball around is a ton of fun.
But what these kids were doing was driving me up a wall; throwing the football from behind my chair, over my head, and towards their friends near the ocean.
And then from the ocean, over my head, back to their friends closer to the boardwalk.
The Seaside Heights Beach Was Empty. There Was No Excuse.
Mind you, it was 10 AM, and the beach was basically empty. Look, I get it, teenagers are going to go to the beach and have fun, and throw a football around, there's nothing wrong with that.
But please, have a little situational awareness when you go to the beach.
How It Resolved and What Every Jersey Shore Beachgoer Should Remember
Fortunately, in my case, I was able to make eye contact with one of the people throwing the football and give them the "really?!" look, and they moved their game, and that was the end of it. But if you're coming to the shore this summer, please be mindful of the other people on the beach.
