12-Foot Great White Shark Pings Off Jersey Shore
Ironbound, a 12-foot, 998-pound male great white shark, was tagged by OCEARCH off the coast of Nova Scotia last October. Since then, he's made a big trip down the East Coast, making a somewhat-close stop near Barnegat in October, heading all the way down to the Carolinas, before making a u-turn around the Florida Keys. He's headed north since then, and luckily he spent time around North Carolina before bolting east into deeper waters.
He's an angry-looking dude, so hopefully, he stays away from the shore. There's another great white named Brunswick, who recently pinged even further into the Atlantic. Brunswick is a lot smaller than Ironbound, weighing in at 8'9", 431 pounds.
Of course, we all remember the hysteria surrounding Mary Lee, the great white that has pinged off of our coast several times over the years. You can fall pretty deep down a rabbit hole when you play with OCEARCH, and they even have an app you can download to track sharks yourself.
