What's your New Year's resolution? Maybe it's to read more, or get in shape, or learn how to cook. For the Postal Service, it's to increase the shipping rates again.

It seems like every year, the Post Office ends up increasing how much it costs to either ship something or buy stamps.

The Cost Of Stamps Rose In 2025

For example, in 2025, the cost of a stamp was up to 75 cents. Granted, the fact that you can pay an organization only 75 cents and they'll take a letter from Jersey to Alaska, no questions asked, is kind of wild.

But here we are headed into 2026, and it looks like the USPS is getting ready to increase the price of how much it costs to ship something.

According to NJ.com, we'll see a price hike of 6.6% for priority mail, 5.1% for priority express mail, 7.8% for USPS ground advantage, and a 6% increase for parcel select.

There is some good news here, though, and that is that even though there are price hikes for shipping with the USPS, stamp prices will stay the same headed into the new year.

When Do USPS's New Shipping Rates Go Into Effect?

The new shipping rates go into effect on January 18th, and the main reason for the price increase is to combat a loss in profit from 2025.

In the grand scheme of things, a few dollars here and a few cents there isn't a ton, but if you're a small business owner or someone who ships a lot of packages, it's just one more thing you'll have to budget for in the great state of New Jersey.

Biggest NJ company layoffs announced in 2025

In the first quarter of 2025 alone, roughly a dozen New Jersey employers announced over 3,000 layoffs. By October, the number of layoffs announced was beyond 11,000.
