Starting on October 1st 2016, the cost of parking at the meters in downtown Toms River will be going up. The price increase varies for different areas.

According to the Patch,  the parking garage that is at Ocean County Library complex, the fee will go to from 25 cents per hour, to 75 cents per hour. On-street parking fees will start at 50 cents per hour for the first two hours, but for the third hour and beyond, the cost will increase by 50 cents.

Officials say the increase is to pay for new meters that people can pay using debit and credit cards. Similar to the ones that are in Seaside Heights, and Seaside Park.

The cost of the new meters is $250,000. After the machines are paid off, the cost of parking will NOT decrease. That is what has downtown Toms River patrons and business owners mad.
