A basement fire sends a homeowner out of their residence on Monday morning around 9:30 am over on Morris Court in the Morganville section of Marlboro.

The homeowner told Marlboro Police they saw smoke and flames coming from the basement but they were able to safely evacuate the residence before officers and firefighters arrived on the scene.

The two alarm fire was put out around 11:15 am by the Robertsville Fire Department, Morganville Volunteer Fire Department, Marlboro Fire Department, South Old Bridge Fire Department, Gordons Corner Road Fire Department and Monroe Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Marlboro Township Fire Prevention Bureau and Ptlm. Gregory Battaglia of the Marlboro Township Police Department.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and police say that is considered not to be suspicious in nature.
