I went to go see stand-up comedian Jim Norton last night, and it got me thinking. Who are my favorite comedians of all time. Here are my top 5. Feel free to comment on who are your all time favs.

    Ellen Degeneres

Forget about her sappy televison talk show. (enough with the dancing already) Her quick witted stand up is as original as one gets. Her sarcasm would take her stories in a direction one wouldn't expect. Even if you're not a fan of the female comedien, Ellen makes my top 5

    Andrew "Dice" Clay

One of the biggest comics of the 80's. Dice would take no prisoners on stage. He didn't hold back. He got banned from MTV, and nursery rhymes would never be the same again. Only Dice could start a joke with "so I got my tongue up this chick's a** right. If you went to a live show and you were sitting in the first few rows good chance you were gonna get destroyed.

    Eddie Murphy

Back in the day, it didn't get much funnier than Eddie Murphy. Everything he did was gold. He killed it weekly on Saturday Night Live. Movies like Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2. 48 Hours. Trading Places were box office smashes. But of course since we are talking stand-up, Eddie Murphy DELIRIOUS" is one of the greatest stand up routines of all time. From his dead on impressions, to "Goonie Goo Goo", "ice cream man", "Aunt Bunny" etc. It still is one of the most quoted comedy routines of all time

    Bill Cosby

Only Bill Cosby seems he is able to pull off a stand up routine sitting down. Bill Cosby "Himself" was a "symphony" of the Cos telling stories about life and raising a family. From going to the dentist, natural childbirth, going on an airplane with "Jeffrey" to chocolate cake. Bill told his stories with a rhythm, and sounds that made you feel like he was talking about your life.

    George Carlin

Probably one of the most honest stand up comedians of our time who just told it like it is. Whether it was about golf courses, getting on an airplane, religion, politicians, to ""Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television", to words in general. Carlin told it as is, and didn't care what you thought. He was a master "wordsmith", who kicked you in the nuts while making you cry with laughter. He thinks people are stupid, but describes it in a way where you believe that there is no way he's not talking about you. He started out his career by doing playful, hippie characters on stage, and evolved into an honest "up yours" genius on stage. George Carlin goes down as my favorite comic of all time
