Toms River Police Officer Vic Tamaro and EMT's Jarret Jirak, Brett Kyle and Lola are being hailed as heroes on duty after going above and beyond to help bring an elderly man's injured dog back home.

On Tuesday night, Officer Vic Tamaro responded to the area of Hovsons Boulevard for an elderly male requesting help with his 115 pound dog whose back legs gave out while out on a walk.

Officer Tamaro then felt it would be uncomfortable for the dog and difficult to move her, so he requested Silverton EMS to respond with their “Reeves” and carry the dog approximately 1/2 mile back to its home.

Lola was seen by her vet on Wednesday as a precaution and is back to herself today.
