Some people wanted Toms River Intermediate East Middle School; I will be there at 8:37 sharp on Thursday, October 6th 2016!!”

Toms River Police Detectives worked with the Ocean County Prosecutors Office High Tech Crime Unit to evaluate the post and see if there was any credible threat. TRPD also coordinated with Superintendent of Toms River Schools, David Healy, to provide extra security measures at all schools within the township. Police determined that there was no credible threat, and the incident was a hoax.

The investigation identified the perpetrator as a 12 year old female who attends school within the township. In addition to disciplinary action by the school, she was charged with one third degree criminal count of 2C33-3(2); causing false public alarm.
