I hate to start off the New Year with negative news, but If you have the time and money and are thinking of cruising this year, first check this list out so you can avoid the most dangerous places that could turn your dream vacation into a nightmare.

If you're already booked to these dicey destinations, maybe think about just staying on the ship. :-P (Although there are concerns with that, as well--see below).

According to cruisedestination.net, these 10 spots should be avoided due to crime and drugs:

1. The Bahamas

2.  Honduras

3. Venezuela

4. Guatemala

5.  Mexico

6.  St. Kitts-Nevis

7.  Antigua

8.  US. Virgin Islands

9.  El Salvador

10. St. Lucia

And as far as the ship itself, prweb.com warns about the cruise vessels:

"Its always important to remember that these ships can pose safety threats to those not paying close attention to their surroundings.

Pay attention at the muster drill: it just might save your life or the the life of a loved one.

Leave your truly valuable possessions at home.

Don't leave your drink unattended. (Sexual crimes are still the most prevalent crime committed aboard a cruise ship.)

Don't lean over the railings; they're there for a reason. Most passengers or crew who fall overboard are never recovered.

Cruise ships are small cities and have all types of people from all walks of life; be considerate of others and walk away from any disagreements or fights.

Don't invite people you don't know into your room and refrain from giving out personal information to strangers."
