Last weekend at the Hungarian American Citizens Club in Woodbridge, the original lineup of The Smithereens reunited for an emotional benefit show.

Proceeds of the concert went to the Betty Babjak Memorial Fund, which was created after the death of Smithereens' guitarist Jim Babjak's wife Betty lost her battle with pancreatic cancer.

The band performed their 1986 album "Especially For You" in its entirety, and things were made more special by the reunion of the band with founding bassist Mike Mesaros, who hadn't played with the band in over a decade.

DiNizio called the show the “first annual” Betty Babjak Memorial Concert, so hopefully it will become an annual event.
