There will be a temporary lane closure along Route 71 and Main Street northbound in Monmouth County and detour you from Loch Arbour to Allenhurst between 8:00 pm tonight and 6:00 am tomorrow morning.

The DOT has scheduled some more work on their safety improvement project with their contractor, New Prince Concrete, who is also scheduled to close the Route 71 northbound lane between Edgemont Avenue and Cedar Avenue for the next several months for roadway improvements.

Initial work began in Loch Arbour and Allenhurst last spring, but work was stopped during the summer and is now resuming here in the fall.

Here is the Route 71/Main Street Northbound detour that will be in place for about three months:

· Motorists will be directed to turn RIGHT onto Edgemont Avenue.
· Turn LEFT onto Ocean Avenue.
· Turn LEFT onto Cedar Avenue.
· And turn RIGHT back onto Route 71/Main Street.

That's not all though as road work also will begin soon on Route 71 in Asbury Park.

The DOT says they will provide advance notice prior to the start of construction for pavement resurfacing and safety improvements project that is set to improve safety and operational performance on the roadway along a two-mile stretch between Cedar Avenue in Allenhurst and the Main Avenue/Bond Street intersection in Asbury Park.

Project improvements include the resurfacing of Route 71/Main Street, upgrading 29 intersections with ADA compliant ramps, and several pedestrian upgrades including curb and sidewalk replacement.

The safety improvements project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2020.

There will also be bike lanes added, 17 new traffic signals, replacement of steel utility poles with standard wooden poles, landscape restoration, utility relocation, and improved lighting to enhance the safety of the road for the thousands of motorists, pedestrians and cyclists who use the road everyday.

The project has been designed in phases with no work taking place between May 15 and September 15 during the summer.
