We live in an extraordinary time.
We can send a space ship to Mars and communicate with it as easily as making a phone call or sending a text. We can regrow body parts in a petri dish. The sky is the limit on what we can accomplish. Science is pretty great.
But as great as science is, it still can't explain EVERYTHING.
The moon orbits Earth at about 238,855 miles. The International Space Station orbits Earth at about 260 miles.
That's quite a difference.
So, what would it look like if they switched, and the moon orbited the Earth at 260 miles?
Hopefully the rain we have been dealing with all day will be out of the area tonight once the sun goes down so we get a chance to see the Pan STARRS Comet.
According to scientists, look to the western sky. The moon and the comet will not be any higher than 10 degrees above the horizon. That is about the size of your clenched held out at arm's length. Also use binoculars for the best chance to see it tonight. Check out Space.com for more info.
Here is a headline in today's news:
"3-mile-wide asteroid to buzz planet Earth tonight".
As soon as I read that, I was like "Whoa, It's going to buzz us? How close is this thing going to get"?
Then I thought let's see what they mean by the word "BUZZ"
Twenty five years ago we all figured that the year 2000 would bring a world similar to The Jetsons, only with cell phones. Seriously, the creators of the show thought of almost everything OTHER then those. Almost 12 years later we still haven't gotten to the level I think we need to be. Google is one company that is trying to push things where they need to be.
New science studies come out all time. Every week we find out that something awesome could be bad for us. I normally ignore these studies because I refuse to not participate in the good things in life. This new study though is just too scary to ignore.
Too many times we only try to improve things that are terrible. It makes sense to try to take something that is poor and then make it better. Along the way we forget to take things that are good and make them great. With Thanksgiving just behind us, I think food is a great way to highlight my point.
