A swimmer who was found lying face down in the water off Jenkinson's Beach on Arnold Avenue Thursday morning has passed away.

Point Pleasant Beach Police responded along with the Point Pleasant First Aid Squad around 11:37 am for a report of a swimmer in distress.

When they arrived, three police officers entered the water to rescue the man and were able to move him onto the beach.

Police then administered CPR to the man, who was unconscious, until the Point Pleasant First Aid Squad, Jenkinson's Lifeguards and other officers arrived on site to provide additional life saving measures.

The man was transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick where he was pronounced deceased.

"All residents and visitors are reminded that the beaches in Point Pleasant Beach are not guarded in the offseason and should not be entering the ocean," Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Joseph Michigan said in a statement.
