ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – Atlantic Highlands Police Officers arrested a New York man who allegedly eluded officers and committed a strong-armed robbery.

Mohammed Sam, 31, of Wheatley, New York ran from police after he robbed a patron at the TNC Mini-Mart on 80 First Avenue at 6:58 AM on Friday, May 24th.

According to Atlantic Highlands Police Chief David Rossbach, officers were able to locate Sam within minutes of him fleeing on foot.

The investigation revealed that Sam was allegedly the suspect wanted by Holmdel Police in connection with eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle that occurred hours earlier that morning.

When Holmdel Officers initiated a traffic stop on Sam, he refused to pull over and a chase ensued through the town, then in Middletown and finally in Atlantic Highlands where Sam ditched his car on Highway 36 and fled on foot.

Officers were not immediately able to locate him.

Sam is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in Freehold.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
